The Rabbit Cabriolet replaced the Beetle Cabriolet in 1979 as Volkswagen's compact convertible car line. The "Rabbit" is actually the US marketing name for the Volkswagen Golf. The Rabbit Cabriolet had 2 generations: the 1st Series (1979-1993), based on the Golf Mark 1, and the 2nd Series (1994-2002), based on the Golf Mark 3. The 2nd Series had a major facelift for the 2000 MY, taking some elements from the Golf Mark 4 while keeping the body of the Mark 3. The Rabbit Cabriolet was eventually discontinued in 2002.
