The Mercedes-Benz W108 replaced the
W111 Sedan as the new line of luxury sedans. Introduced in 1965, it initially had 3 models: the 250S, 250SE and 300SEb. In 1967, all models were replaced by the 280S and 280SE and in 1968, the long wheel base 280SEL was added. The 280SE/SEL 3.5 models were added in 1970 and 280SE/SEL 4.5 in 1971.
W109 was also released in 1965 as the longer and more powerful version of the W108. Both lines were replaced in 1972 by Mercedes-Benz's newest flagship line, the
