The BMW 7 Series is a line of top-of-the-line luxury cars. Introduced in 1977, it is BMW's main flagship line. The series is currently in its 4th generation and is only available as a sedan.

The BMW E38 was the successor of the BMW E32 and is considered the 3rd generation of the 7 Series. Introduced in 1994, it started with 3 models: the 730i, 740i and 750i. In 1996, the 730i was replaced by the 735i and the 728i was added. The first diesel-powered E38, the 725tds, was added in 1997 and then the 730d in 1998 and then finally the 740d in 1999. All models were replaced in 2001 by the next generation of the 7 Series, the BMW E65.
