The cabriolet line Alfa Romeo Spider replaced the
Giulietta and Giulia Spider in 1966. These cabriolets were based on the
105/115 Series coupes and went through 4 phases: Series 1 ('66-'69), Series 2 ('70-'83), Series 3 ('82-'90) and Series 4 ('90-'93). The line was discontinued in 1993 before returning as the
916 Series Spider in 1995.
The first Series 1 model was the Duetto. It was replaced in late 1967 by the 1750 Veloce and added the 1300 Junior in 1968. In 1970, the Kamm-tailed Series 2 was introduced but still used the same model names. The 2000 Veloce was added in 1971 and the 1600 Junior in 1972. The 1750 and 1300 were dropped in 1973 and 1978 respectively. Series 3 replaced the 2000 Veloce and the 1600 Junior with the Aerodinamica 2000/1600 in 1982 and 1983 respectively. The Graduate and Quadrifoglio Verde were added in 1985. All were replaced by the Type 4 in 1990.
